The report presents a preliminary feasibility study for salt gradient solar ponds in Egypt. Chapter 1 gives a brief review of the technical and economic aspects of solar ponds. Chapter 2 includes a discussion of the ongoing analytical and experimental research at the Ralph M. Parsons Laboratory. Chapter 3 investigates the potential and technical feasibility of construction and operation of large scale solar ponds in the Qattara Depression. Performance of the proposed solar ponds has been simulated using the Solar Pond Model developed at M.I.T. Chapter 4 gives details of the construction, operation and performance of small demonstration solar ponds at Lake Qarun or Lake Maruit.en_US
