This report is one of a series of publications which describe various studies undertaken under the sponsorship of the Technology Adaptation Program at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The United States Department of State, through the Agency for International Development, awarded the Massachusetts Institute of Technology a contract to provide support at M.I.T. for the development, in conjunction with institutions in selected developing countries, of capabilities useful in the adaptation of technologies and problem-solving techniques to the needs-of those countries. This particular study describes research conducted in conjunction with Cairo University, Cairo, Egypt. In the process of making this TAP supported study some insight has been gained into how appropriate technologies can be identified and adapted to the needs of developing countries per se, and it is expected that the recommendations developed will serve as a guide to other developing countries for the solution of similar problems which may be encountered there.en_US
